Stick Shadow Primer Reviews/Comparisons: NYC Cityproof 24 hr waterproof eyeshadow+ Milani Shadow Eyes Champagne Toast
So I recently picked up 2 products that are kind of similar... but they can be used kind of differently. I was going to just do a review of the NYC Cityproof shadow... but I thought... might as well put the Milani Shadow Eyes that I just recently picked up here also!
So... you don't really need both of these products because they are quite similar... but they serve a different purpose and they are both really good for drugstore eye primers.
Milani Shadow Eyes
This is probably the best drugstore Cream Shadow that is out there. Hands down. I think using it on its own would work really good if you just want something quick where your out the door. It doesn't crease, its super longwearing and its such a pretty color on its own. I'm running a little low on my Urban Decay Primer Potion and I love that... but I have to say this might work just as good if not better for me. It isn't totally matte, but I don't tend to wear just matte eyeshadows all that often... and if I do... I have other stuff for that. I think it wears a lot longer than the Maybeline Color Tattoos. I used this for my graduation make up underneath the Too Faced Chocolate Bar palette and it really lasted and just worked really really well.
This also makes a great liner for the waterline. I kind of have trouble with getting product to stay really well in my waterline, but this stays put really really well. And I am just so impressed with it. This is slightly Holy Grail Status for me... and I haven't had it for very long... but it works so well I would definitely buy a ton more. Lol.
It is also cruelty free, which is awesome and its easy to put on. I haven't had amazing luck with cream shadows in this jumbo pencil form. The Rimmel One just kinda broke off on me and I don't know if I ever sharpened it or if I could sharpen it... lol. The Nyx ones were not my favorite and those creased and... I was just kind of giving up on this type of product... but I heard good things about this and the Jordana liner like this and its true! This is really awesome and I'm quite happy with it.
The cons... the packaging isn't all that secure. Its kind of loose so it pops back up after you put it down. Its also not retractable. I think it has to be sharpened... that being said I've used it pretty much every day for a week and its still really sharp... so thats pretty amazing. A little kind of goes along way especially as a shadow. You won't need to go over it or anything... now I realize I haven't worn it quite that often all over the lid... I may have used it every day on my waterline and most days on my lid and it still worked amazingly well.
I think I'm going to need to test this out with the L'oreal La Palettes because those do not wear well on me if I don't use the UD Primer potion. So if they could work well with those (office space voice) That would be greeeeeaaaattttt.
Some other random things on Milani's Website these retail for 7.49... but of corse there are all sorts of deals at CVS and if you belong to their beauty club... you don't even need to go to the store that often, they'll just send you lots of coupons and its awesome. Lol. There is also a great color range of these. The Jordana ones are probably similarly good. Milani isn't as easily available as other brands though. Like I said, its at CVS, Wallgreens... Idk if its at rite aid. Its not at Target. I think its at Wall Mart. And definitely not at Harmon or Ulta. Their website is kind of like ELF's though it seems that they do sales quite often and its relatively inexpensive to get free shipping.
NYC Cityproof 24 hr Waterproof eyeshadow
This I wasn't expecting quite as much of... but it holds up really well!
Now there are a few different types of this. There is one that is just a primer, and this one that is more like a cream shadow!
On the NYC Website it said that this is 2.99... but I think it might be a little more than that it might have been more than that. These had a lot of different colors at CVS... idk if these were CVS exclusives or not, cause I felt like I didn't see many colors at Target.
The color is very light. It is a little white and sparkly. you could use this alone on the inner corner... but I wouldn't use it alone anywhere else.
This really makes colorful eyeshadows pop. If you're wearing like a pastel color, this is really awesome for that. I wore this with Milani's Bella Pink and it worked really really well. The Milani is pigmented, but its a light color and its hard to see its full intensity, but this made it look really really nice.
The lasting power was also really great with this on it. I had to take my contact lens out at a restaurant with this on, and my eyes were a little watery... I think my allergies are acting up or I'm catching a cold... which sucks lol. But anyway, this was still on after I took it out... so that kind of proved that this was a good primer. And I had the Milani Shadow Eyes on in the waterline and that stayed too! This is definitely another little hidden gem of the drugstore. NYC is not a bad affordable brand AT ALL!
NYC might be easier to find... but like I said this might be a CVS exclusive or something... idk I don't think I saw the eyeshadows with colors at Target... I think they also sell them at Wall Mart and Rite Aid. These are not at Wallgreens and they don't have an online store available... but they probably do have stuff at Wall Marts online store or something like that. Lol. The Packaging for this is also really good. Its similar to their lip jumbo pencils, but it has like two little circles that keep it more secure.
If I were to recommend one... idk that I could lol. I think I'll probably end up using the Milani one more... but I think the NYC one will work well under more shades. The Milani adds that Champagne color and the NYC doesn't have much color to it where it would take away from any colorful eyeshadow or anything like that. It might have a little shimmer that might show up under a matte... but idk. I might have to try that and see what it looks like... not sure.
So... yeah. Both good products, depending on what you like or where you shop, you may want one over the other. As of right now. I also have reached for the Milani more, just cause I've only had these for a little while and the Milani is more the shade I like... but I'm going to do more colorful looks and I think with the Sugar Pop Palette from Too Faced the NYC will work awesomely!
