First Impression Friday: Sonia Kashuk Grand Bazaar Matte Liquid Lipstick
So I had never tried Sonia Kashuk before buying 2 products from her Grand Bazaar collection. I have a first impression of that palette right here and a look with it right here so check those out if you're interested in this product... and I'll break down the review a little bit.
Packaging
The packaging is adorable. This would make a great gift for someone because it just looks so cute. Its got a plaid top with the SK logo on the top... which I am a personal fan of because those are my initials. Lol. So if you're looking for a present with someone's initials... there you go!
Its also pretty practical with the applicator. The applicator is small, but not too small and soft but its not so soft that you would get it outside of the lip line. Its really easy to get right around the cupid's bow and the bottom lip.
I've heard some liquid lipsticks have packaging that leaks. I haven't noticed that with this, I don't think it would... but I wouldn't necessarily know right now. I haven't used this much and I haven't had it much. The lid closes really nice and tight, but who's to say that won't get looser over time. I'm not really sure what to look for with liquid lipstick packaging... this is one of the only ones I have... so yeah.
Application
Like I mentioned, the applicator was pretty perfect it made for a really nice and precise application. I didn't use a lip liner with this and it didn't bleed.
I also kind of wore this a little bit sheer too. I spread it on my lips a little bit with my fingers and that got the color around really nicely.
How does it feel
It doesn't feel like anything. It doesn't exactly feel moisturizing or anything, but it doesn't tug at the lip, it doesn't feel uncomfortable or dry. It might feel a tiny tiny bit drying, but it isn't uncomfortable at all... and I don't even have a balm on underneath or anything.
Wear Time
Okay so the wear time isn't horrible, but it does wear off a little because unless you don't eat or talk that's bound to happen. It lasted me a few hours before I was eating or doing anything really well... once I ate it wore down but it wore to a pretty color too. It looked a little bit different but still very pretty.
After drinking some iced tea, you can see a little of its worn off in the center... but you really can't tell and it doesn't look crazy or anything.
It might have worn better if I wore a lip liner underneath... but I didn't and its still wearing pretty well. And it isn't like this is something that would be really hard to re-apply or anything.
Color
So it is true to color and the payoff is really good. I looked up swatches before I bought it because I was a little confused with the packaging and target lighting. And it does show up very matte. It dries pretty fast.
Tips
If you wanted to make it a little more comfortable, EOS lip balms are a little drier and work well underneath matte lipsticks.
You don't really need a lipliner with this but as I said, it might make it wear longer. A lip primer would also probably work, my friend used Too Faced's lip primer and that worked really well.
Also if you have any of those balms that you're supposed to wear over liquid lipsticks, I know Covergirl has them and Rimmel... you could probably use that over these too... but I think you would need to reapply this lipstick as well... so that might not actually work all that well.
Final Verdict
I like this a lot! I feel like its a bit expensive for what it is... it is like $12... but I think it would make a good gift for someone and it is cheaper than all the high end alternatives and its better than some of the more affordable options. I like it more than the Rimmel Show Off Velvet and the Nyx Soft Matte Lip Cream. I think if you just want a matte lipstick, the Maybelline Mattes are maybe a little better than this one... lol. Its still good though and I really like it!
Hope this was helpful!
Byeee!
P.S 2 pretty big drawbacks. 1) I'm sure this isn't permanent. 2) There are only like 2 colors and they don't look like they're colors that will suit everyone. This I didn't think would suit me, but I ended up liking it... but its quite dark and I may not get the most use of it. Its really great, but idk.
