Makeup Breakups January 2016: What Brands I want to try more of... and what to not buy!
This is kind of an anti haul... but its more just a different way of looking at what I'm going to be paying more attention to... and what I'm going to let fall under the radar... I think I might do this seasonally because what might be my favorite right now might not be the next time all the big releases are happening... who knows!
This is also only going to be high end for right now... it's just easier to be an impulsive drugstore makeup buyer... and for the most part... it won't hurt anyone... so it is what it is with drugstore. I don't necessarily have a favorite or least favorite... sometimes I'm super interested in drugstore makeup, sometimes I'm totally untempted... lately it's been good to me... so we'll see what happens... but yeah. Let's talk about some brands.
I'd also like to point out that I'm not a minimalist by any means. I like buying things and more specifically makeup. I think I'm going to buy less makeup this year than I did last year... but this isn't so much about no-buys but about buying what is going to make me happiest. So I'm not really going to go in any order... I'm just going to explain what I think about the brands as I go and the strong and weak points of the brand... and all that good stuff! So yeah!
Anastasia Beverly Hills
Anastasia might be one of my favorite brands of the moment... and honestly... I haven't tried all that much from the brand. I have 3 eye palettes and one highlight palette. The eye palettes are some of my absolute favorites... and the Highlight palette too. They don't necessarily have much more that I want on the market right now... so they might be under my radar for a little bit... but any time they release a new palette... even if they release new face products, I think I'll pay attention. I might try their single shadows sometime... not sure.
Makeup Geek
Today I had a really good makeup look that I think will sort of be my "everyday" look from now on with the Warm and Cozy Bundle... I'll get to that look sometime in the future... but yeah. I wore Makeup Geek Eyes, Lips and Highlight... and I loved it! They always really impress me. Their makeup may not be the cheapest ever... but it is fairly priced, made in the USA... I like Marlena a lot, I think she's a good person... and I am probably going to order some more things soon. The Plush Matte Lipsticks are amazing! Love it!
Kat Von D
Kat Von D shadows are amazing... I don't have the shade n light palette... I have the Metal Matte and the Plum Quad... and I really like those and would be interested in getting the Shade n Light Eye Palette... I've got to admit... I'm a little bit interested in the Alchemist palette... but I don't think I'm going to get it... nothing she has out right now excites me that much... wait thats a lie, her new liquid lipstick shades look great... So this is a brand I'll look more into... might not buy a lot.
Tarte
Tarte is a brand that hasn't really interested me in a long time... I got the Tartelette in Bloom Palette last year... and it isn't bad... but I never use it! The Pro Glow palette did interest me because it kind of solved a makeup problem that I had. I don't contour a lot, I'd like to get more into it... the idea of cream contour sounds appealing to me... and I love highlights and this has a lot of unique highlights. I thought that really impressed me and I think that's what I would buy more from them. Maybe not eye palettes... but face makeup, skincare brushes for sure... I just ordered an empty palette from them... they're a good brand, but for now... I think that's all I'm interested in from them.
Jouer
Jouer excites me a lot. Follow Christina on Snapchat, she's the sweetest person. And the eye palette I have is amazing, their liquid lipsticks are amazing... I don't think there is anything at jouer that just gets thrown together and the name just gets slapped on the product... there's a lot of thought and inspiration in everything... so I don't think I'll let Jouer slip under the radar any more... I hope she makes more palette and single shadows... I know they'll always have the liquid lipsticks... I just really like Jouer.
Colourpop
I forgot how much I love Colourpop. I love Colourpop Shadows... but there are so many other things from Colourpop that I just love and use on an almost daily basis. Their Ultra Satin lips and Ultra Matte lips are great. I love their Matte X Lippie Sticks. They have amazing eyeliners... They have nice blushes and highlighters too. It's easy to look at colourpop products and be like "Okay... I can pass this collection... they release new stuff all the time." But their stuff is so good... I'm definitely going to pay more attention to their collections!
Stila
Stila has fallen under my radar a lot... and I'm interested in their new cream shadows... but I think they're going to stay under my radar for now... I've never really been in love with anything they've had... other than when I very first started out with makeup... and I just don't see any new releases coming out that I have to have to have to have from them... so they're not going to be on my radar.
Mac
I just tried my first Mac Lipstick last year... and it was really really good. Now I have a lipgloss from mac and I'm excited to try that... I need to compare more things to mac... so I want to try more Mac... that can be a goal this year maybe... lol.
Smashbox
Smashbox is also very under my radar... and I don't really think I'm going to keep it there... I've liked everything I've tried from Smashbox recently. The Primer Water, lipsticks, that 500 point perk from sephora... they have some good stuff that I need to pay more attention too. Face products in particular I think.
Fiona Stiles
I just got a few items from Fiona Stiles. Idk if they carry Fiona Stiles in my Ulta stores... but I kind of love what I have so far... so it might be good to try some more. Just kind of a brand everyone was talking about when it was first released and now I never hear about it. But I like what I have and would try more.
Benefit
Benefit has a lot of older products in their line that I think are hidden gems. I love the That Gal Primer... if you have dry skin, that is a must. They're a little like Colourpop... They release so many new things, it gets hard to pay attention to their old classics... but go for the classics over the new stuff and you'll be good. They mostly have face makeup... but yeah, that's what I'd recommend. I don't really do brows or anything... but they're probably good for that, I have the Kabrow that I sort of like.
Urban Decay
Very similar line that has hidden gems. I don't think their eye palettes are necessarily worth it... they have gone up a lot in price... I kind of like the new After Dark palette that they have out... They have great things like the One n Done and the highlighters they released over the summer... I really liked the Alice collection... and yeah. They probably won't be at the top of my list... but I think I'm buying that After Dark Palette.
The Balm
The Balm have really good eye shadows and I need to try more from the line because I just like them a lot. They go on sale 2 times a year and they're on haute look 4 times a year... they need to be more on my radar because the In The Balm Of Your Hand is one of my favorite palettes. I might try their older releases before their newer ones... idk. I want to try the Matte Hughes too.
Becca
Becca is expensive and a little overhyped... but I love the Blushed with Light Palette I have, I love the highlighter I got recently... They might not be at the top of my radar... but Liquid Champagne Pop is on my Sephora Loves List. And I think I'll get that.
Cover Fx
I have one thing from Cover Fx and I had the hardest time putting it down... I think I'm going to have to try more!
Nars
Nars always works so well for me. All my Nars products are some of my favorites ever... Orgasm Blush I think is kind of overrated... but its still a really great blush! I think I'm probably going to stop buying a lot of the brands on this list a little bit because it would be a good idea to save up for Nars stuff because Nars always works for me!
Too Faced
Too Faced is the big breakup. I like their products... but I just have a lot of them... and I don't need more cutesy fun makeup. There are only so many of the same products you can get... it just isn't the favorite that it used to be for me. I don't think they're a bad brand... but when you have more or less everything in the line... they need to excite me a little more. I'm not a big fan of the Melted Matte formula... I don't love all the colors in the Peach face line. I love the BTW Foundation... but I think I like my Elf Satin Finish wayyy better and the Fiona Stiles just as much... so I don't necessarily think it's worth it for me to purchase again... it's just a brand I think I've outgrown. Not necessarily bad... but they don't impress me the way they used to.
That is everything... I guess I'm not really breaking up with much... but Urban Decay I'm mostly resisting... Stila and Too Faced I'm probably avoiding. Most are "if something grabs my attention, I will pay attention to that" types of things... but I probably won't be buying a ton.
